I was using windows XP and ms word 2003, I have some ms word documents, which I created in ms word 2003(windows xp), but I am using windows 7 ms word 2010 now,

When I open my ms word 2003 documents on my new windows xp ms word 2010 and make some changes (like make a word italic etc) then my document size increase a lot, like it was 12 KB prior, but after doing this small change it became 41 KB and a logo which was given in header section become unvisible,

but when I open same document in ms word 2003 and make some small changes again then my document size automatically decrease to 12 KB and logo start displaying on document.

Can you plesae suggest how can I solve this problem in ms word 2010, because if size will remain same in ms word 2010 then my problme will solve.

    Thanks for your reply Suzanne,

I opned my rtf file in word 2010, save as in .docx and file reduced the size, then I again save as the file in .rtf format, but size increased again.

I need this file in .rtf only in word 2010 with reduced size,

    Please help me in this.

    Thanks

    Mohan Kumar

If you save the Word 2003 doc in the Word 2010 .docx format (preserving the .doc file for comparison), does the size decrease? Do the described changes then not have the same unwanted effect?

I didn't mean to imply that you could make the RTF file smaller this way. RTF by its nature creates a larger file. The XML format will usually result in a smaller file size than .rtf or .doc.

My recollection is that saving as RTF is one of the known causes of file bloat, so again, opening the RTF document in Word 2010 and converting it to .docx might reduce the file size.

Thank you so much Suzanne for the solution,

your solution is working and fixed my problem :)

I have some files in Rich text format(rtf) as well in word 2003, and I am facing same problem while opening these files in word 2010.

Can you please suggest a solution for these files as well?

    Thanks

    Mohan
