Can I create/edit Word and Excel documents using a Chromebook?

I've used Microsoft Office 365 web applications before to work with Word and Excel files on Windows using the Chrome browser. I'm thinking of buying a chromebook. Would I be able to use Microsoft Office 365 to create/view/edit documents and spreadsheets in the same way using Google's operating system?

I know this is an old thread now but seeing as so many "experts" answer on subjects they don't understand...

The poster was asking whether the web versions of Office would work the same in ChromeOS as it does on Chrome on Windows, and the answer is yes it will work fine. But it doesn't offer an offline mode, unlike Google Docs.

And ChromeOS doesn't run on Android, it runs on linux which is the same base as Android uses.

I believe that a Chromebook uses the Google Android Operating System.

While it is not supported for non-telephone Android devices, IF YOU HAVE AN OFFICE 365 SUBSCRIPTION, it is possible to install Office 365 Mobile on such a device.

As I said however, the operating experience with Office 365 Mobile is a FAAAAAAR cry from the experience on a Windows PC.   As far as Word is concerned, think of something less than NotePad.

I'm not asking if a windows version of Office will run on a computer not running Windows.

I suggest you re-read your question:

Would I be able to use Microsoft Office 365 to create/view/edit documents and spreadsheets in the same way using Google's operating system?

The answer to that question is no, because Office doesn't run on Chromebook. However, since  Chromebook uses Chrome as its web browser, and Chrome users can download Microsoft Office Web Apps, you could take that approach - see: http://chromebookratings.com/2011/app-reviews/microsoft-office-web-chrome/. Even that, though, is a far cry from using any desktop version of Office and has only the limited functionality of the Office web apps.

Microsoft Office does not run on the Chrome OS.

Probably in the same way as with the Web Apps, but that is a far cry from Word and Excel on a PC.
