How do I open a document on the web with a URL?

How do I open an HTML document on the web?  I believe I used to be able to do that with Mac Office 11 and I know I can do it with Word 2013 for windows.  Mac Word 2016 does not seem to allow it.  Is there a way to do that or is it an omission in the product?

I have a resume online with live links and the only way I know to have them appear as live links in a PDF is if I open them in word and save as a PDF.

Thank you.  Microsoft Support acknowledged it as well.  Since the document uses Server Side Includes (SSI) I need to open it directly from inside the application.  Word 2013 for Windows still does a good job with that.  I sure hope that feature is not dropped with the MSWord for windows update.

Still, I wonder, is there a way to trick the application...

In Word 2016, use the Insert>Hyperlink command. Enter the URL to the web page you want to open. After closing the dialog, click on the hyperlink in your document to open the web page.

Sorry this is another feature missing. By the large size of the Add a Service dialog, I'm guessing other features may eventually show up there, but there's no way to know what or when that might happen. For now, you'll have to copy and paste from a browser or go back to 2011.

I should have been more clear.  I want to open the document with Word. When I try that, it opens the document in a web browser.  I want to be able to open it in Mac Word 2016 so I can save it as a PDF with live links (and clean it up).  I was able to do that with Mac Word 2011 using **File>Open Hyperlink...**and using Windows Word 2013 with File>Open>Other Web Locations>Browseand typing in the location of the file in the file name field.

In Mac Word 2016, when I click File>Open and click the button Online Locations i only see : "On my Mac".  Clicking the "+" at the bottom allows me to add OnedDrive: OneDrive for business, and SharePoint only,  I can fine no place to enter a URL.

So it seems to me that this is a feature deleted from the "new and improved" version.  Am I missing something?  IS there a work-around?
