Microsoft Equations 3.0

I have Office 2010 Pro, with MathType 6.9 add-in installed. OS is Windows 8.1 64 bit

I'm trying to use enter an equation in Word by using insert-> object -> Microsoft Equations 3.0.

Instead of opening Microsoft Equations 3.0 editor, it opens MathType editor.

I tried to uninstall MathType, and re-install Microsoft Equations 3.0 (Add or Remove Programs -> Office -> right click change -> "Run from my computer" for the equations tool). When attempting to enter an equation now, I get the following message:

"The program used to create this object is Equation. That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, Install Equation or ensure that any dialog boxes in Equation are closed."

I need to use Equations 3.0 and not the new equations tool or any other add-in.

Any advice will be appreciated.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community.

As a first step we shall try repairing the Office 2010. Navigate to Programs and Features in Control Panel by following these steps:

    1. On the main Start Screen type Control Panel in the Search box on the top right-hand corner of the screen.
    2. Once Control Panel opens click on Programs and / or Programs and Features.

Now repair the current Office 2010 installation following the steps as given below:

    1. Right-click on the Office 2010 installation in Programs and Features.
    2. Right-click on Change > click on Repair.
    3. Once the repair is completed, make sure to restart your computer.
    4. Check if this helps to resolve the issue with Microsoft Equation 3.0 in Word 2010.

Try the above step and let us know the result.

    Thank you.
