How to change regional settings / locale on number format in Excel (Office 2016 for Mac)?

Hey there,

I just installed Office 2016 Mac and wanted to use Excel for crunching some report data from my Shop system.

Though, I am facing a big issue: the Shop system provides the data in US local number format:

  • decimal '.'
  • 1000 separator ','

But my Mac is in German with German locales having

  • decimal ','
  • 1000 separator '.'

In Office for Win you could easily change this locale but here I couldn't find a way to adapt Excel to my needs!

Any suggestions are highly welcome!

Thanks!

that's only part of the solution Phil. Excel willnot do anything if it is open. the international preferences are only processed as Excel initializes. So yo must first quit excel, make any changes to the system prefs, and then reopen Excel.

    1. Go to  menu.
    2. Go to Language & Region.
    3. Click on advanced.

At this point a window will pop up that will allow you to specify:

Decimal Point, Thousand separator, type Currency and even Language.

This can be set independent of actual Language and region your in.

Be sure to set at both places.

Then you can go into Excel and Set up currency the way the should be set for your reports.

Close excel. Then go to system preferences and change the nationality or number and decimal separator settings. Then restart excel and it should be ok.  You may hAve to change the settings back to get the data to display the way you want.
