Then the ad is misleading and
ambiguous. The proper thing to do. Is have a section Exclusively devoted to Mac Office written up Explaining Features Mac version has or don't.
All the advertising Hype Microsoft has been putting out is Leading Mac people to believe. That this time Office 2016 supposed to be rewritten on Both ends So they work almost alike.
I realize ActiveX will never hit the doors of Apple. If Apple has had 30 year ban, they are not likely to lift it now. In fact from what I've been reading on the Internet Microsoft in
designing the replacement of IE has purposefully left out ActiveX. (Perhaps, Activex is on it way out.
The least Microsoft could do to give 100% accurate information. They could create a chart naming Every feature that is available by Ribbon, Main Menu, keystroke, shortcut, or however
made available: a side by listing in a Chart Marked with Windows / Mac and marked with a check mark Example:
|
Office 2016 Window |
Office 2016 |
| Activex Controls |
✔️ |
no |
| KeyBoard Short Cuts |
✔️ |
no |
| Reading View (Word) |
✔️ |
no |
| Ribbon customizable |
✔️ |
no (to be added later?) |
| VBA |
✔️ |
Limited |
| Macro |
✔️ |
Limited |
And so on. Then Mac Users and windows switchers to Mac will know what to expect.
I fear what will happen is 2016 will be a Modern day version of Office 2008 where everything to do with VBA and Macros was stripped out was never given time to put back. Only 2016 could be far worst. There could be many features stripped away and forgotten.
Another example Many College grads were all the time about formatting a Paper, Dissertation according specific Grammar Rules (such as APA). And such was pointed out many a time how to do so in 2011 Mac. Yet in 2016 The are no longer any specific type or
Grammar rules you can check (standard, Legal, etc and so on). Now you just have a few basic rules you can turn on and off. So Microsoft has made 2016 useless for College students to do their work formatted as the college wants.
a College supplies Macs to their students then they are going to purchase and install Parallels or some other VM software Windows and a Copy of Windows version of Office. Will that happen. No Universities that key their curriculum around Macs will have to
switch to windows based, and start providing Windows machines. So far we haven't fielded such questions in 2016 yet, But the seasons haven't rolled around when this will be important.
Apple won't stand long for such. They will figure out how to put those missing features into iWork And you would have a Mass exodus iWorks already does RTL natively and they are capable exporting Office file formats. Apple
is making new Moves into enterprise after having ignored such. If Microsoft is not careful they will be standing on the periphery Scratching their head trying to figure out what
happened.
