Access "Could not find field" and TaxonomyHiddenList very annoying!!!

Hi There,

This is driving me mad!  I routinely export a sharepoint list to Access so I can work on it.  Today I exported the list and gained an additional database "TaxonomyHiddenList".

Worse than that I now cannot change any field in the table view without receiving a Microsoft Access Could not find field error.  It clearly can find the field as I am editing in the field not coding or anything.  The message does not tell me what is actually wrong and I can find nothing on the web to explain why this would have appeared and more importantly what the hell I can do about it.

I need to do this to work on the train, and right now this is not possible.  Please someone help!

Trevor

Please use precise language. You did not gain an additional database, but an additional table. That seems to be a side effect of changes to the SP list:

It appears you don't want to change any field, but want to change values in existing fields. This is called offline editing.

As a test I would try exporting a new simple SP list. Can you still edit? I assume yes.

Then maybe I would conclude that the taxonomy fields are too much for Access to handle and you can no longer edit this list.

Maybe you can export to Excel and edit in it?

    Hi Tom,

Yep you are right it is a table.  I tried your URL but adding that to my site collection URL comes back as page not found.

I can export any other list in my sharepoint site to Access and it works fine.  It is just this list, when you export it you get the TaxonomyHiddenList table as well and if you look at the relationships in the access database exported then you find that this Table is related to the list via a hidden column/field called "Taxonomy Catch All Column.Value".  In the relationship box this is grouped under a header "Taxonomy Catch All Column" suggesting this is some form of built in functionality.

I've tried breaking the relationship in Access and refreshing the data.  I've also tried deleting the table.   I suspect though this is embedded in sharepoint and I do not have Admin access and neither the table nor the field/column is visible to me to do anything about it.  I'm starting to think the only way out is to export the list to excel then re-import it.  Problem with that will be what else it breaks.
