Office 365 Home won't install...stuck at 27-28%

I have been trying to install Office 365 for several days now.  Each time I get a message stating that it is installing in the background.  It gets to 27 or 28% and will stay there for hours until a message pops up that there was an error and it wasn't installed.

I have gone through the procedure of using the fix-it tool (at least 20x), disabling anti-virus, and every online tutorial I could find but  get the same problem every time!

I am running windows 8.1, 64x

Hi Cortney,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Office Community.

You may follow the steps provided in the article given below then try to install and check if that works.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2813190

If the same issue persists then enable the Hidden Administrator Account on the computer then try to install Office 365 in the administrative account and verify the status.

For Windows 8.1 computer follow the steps provided below:

a. Press the Windows key to get into the Metro interface if you are not already there.

b. Enter cmd and right-click on the Command Prompt result that should appear.

This opens a list of options at the bottom. Select Run as administrator there.

c. Accept the UAC prompt

d. Enter the following command to enable the hidden administrator account:

net user administrator /active:yes

e. If you ever want to disable the account follow the same instructions, but run the following command instead:net user administrator /active:no

Once you have enabled the account, you will see it listed in the user accounts control panel applet, restart the computer and log in to the local Administrator account and try installing office 365.

Note that the account has not assigned a password to it, and that you should consider setting one to improve account security.

For further queries, reply and we would be happy to assist.

Thank you.

After trying everything and many trials for the last three days I finally installed it (accidentally). Here is how:

    1. Use the appropriate setup for installation (32 vs 64 bit)
    2. If the setup got stuck simply restart your computer
    3. Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features and select MS Office 2016 and click on Change
    4. In my case step 3 did not seem to do anything. If the repair screen did not come up use the Task Manager to kill the Click 2 Run program that is responsible for the installation. In my case as soon as I killed the process, the repair screen showed up and the repair progressed quickly. MS Office was installed at last!

My config AMD CPU, Windows 10.

I hope it helps alleviate the suffering many of us have gone through. I have used MS for the last 20 years and I am an IT professional. Not what I had expected from MS. Very disappointing.
