See the Article “Why can’t I start my Office 2013 application at:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/why-cant-i-start-my-office-2013-application-HA104011864.aspx

If that does not help, then you might remove all traces of the Office installation by downloading the fixit from the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

saving it to your computer and then running it.

Then reinstall Office by logging into www.office.com/myaccountwith your registered email address and click Install Office.

I had the same problem, and it was driving me crazy.

What you need to do is to check if the following Service is enabled: "Microsoft Click-To-Run". If not, it should be enabled and either put to start automatically or manually, that doesnt matter. It just needs to be enabled.

So basically, run Services, search for Microsoft Click-To-Run and enable it. That solved the same problem for me, I hope it will help you as well.

    Good luck!

Thanks Niko_M!  Office wasn't working, I couldn't uninstall and reinstall and the FixIt couldn't help.  But that one action you described saved me the whole hassle of manually uninstalling/deleting reg entries/etc.  Yay!

Anyone else looking for this, open the Control Panel, change the view to icons (large or small), click on Administrative Tools, double click on Services.  There are other ways of finding it, but that'll get you there.

I had this same issue and could not figure out for the life of me what was causing Office to not install and in addition I was receiving an error install message 1058-4 and a "Disabled" message at time of install. I was able to fix this by Starting the "Office Software Protection Platform Service". This MS Service was stopped and therefore would not allow the program to install because there would be no way for the software to verify your provided serial number. Basically, it is protection from unregistered versions of the product (torrents, etc.).

I recommend checking this service is running before going through the whole process listed on this page:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Manually-uninstall-Office-2013-or-Office-365-1d1110d5-75a4-4154-969e-4260ff29b232?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

    1. Access the Services in Windows
    2. Start the Service Office Software Protection Platform"
    3. Try reinstalling the Office product

If it still won't install I recommend going through the list in the provided link above.

    Good Luck!

How or when can I use Word?  I have filled out all the forms and ordered the service?  I have another question:  I have used this program for several years and never was charged a fee, why now?
