OneNote "microsoft OneNote has stopped working" "microsoft OneNote is restarting"

I have been loving using OneNote for the past 3 months, but in the last few weeks my OneNote has been restarting uncontrollably.  Initially it was after about 30 minutes of work, but now it does it within 5 minutes and restarts about every 2 minutes thereafter.  I have read the similar threads on Microsoft Community and it sounds like there was a similar problem 2 years ago with an update.

The first note of restarting is "Microsoft OneNote has stopped working"

It shuts down and a box appears saying "Microsoft OneNote is restarting"

Thoughts?

The AppData Folder is a hidden one. You could make it visible by changing the settings in Explorer. But there is a more simple way to clear the OneNote cache:

Start OneNote with the parameter /safeboot. you can do that using WIN+R, then type OneNote /safeboot and hit return. A dialog come up showing you some options. Use the clear cache option and restart OneNote the normal way after that. Hope that will help.

Usually the cache of any notebook you actually close in OneNote is flushed. So closing all notebooks *should* have the same effect. But I recommend the method above.

But first: I have to repeat what Haukeberg said: all "unsaved" (meaning: not synced to OneDrive) notes are lost in that process. So make sure first all your opened notebooks have finished syncing.

    Could be so many things.

It might help to clear the OneNote cache.

Use file explorer and navigate to:

    C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote\16.0\cache

*note. everything that has not synced to the cloud will be lost. You can back up this stuff by just putting it in a temporary folder away from this folder.

I am using Microsoft 365 and OneNote 2013.  I did reboot in msconfig which puts it into safe mode and then doesn't let me into the program at all.  I restarted it in normal mode and it actually worked fine for a little while...and then it started doing it again.
