Office for Mac 2016 ....cannot move shapes to location desired in document when using MS Word

In the old days....  I could insert a shape into a word document and move it precisely by "nudging" the shape , object, or text box wherever  I needed to position it.  Fine adjustments to the position were made by clicking the object, holding down the command key....and then moving it precisely where I wanted it by using the directional arrows on the keyboard.

How can I do this without employing advanced math/graphics.....in the CURRENT 2016 Office environment?

Yeah, a bit of a modification in the program...

  • To nudge Word Drawing Objects (Text Boxes & Shapes) at smallest increments hold both Control + Command while using the Arrow Keys.
  • For SmartArt use the Option Key
  • Charts & Pictures are a different story. I've yet to find a way to nudge them with the Arrow Keys regardless of which combination of modifier keys you use. You can drag them (as well as other objects) without snapping to the grid by holding only the Command key.

Also, you can use Word> Preferences - Edit-> Grid Options to adjust the underlying Grid to suit yourself.
