Nothing happens after entering product key

After my trial of Office 365 expired, I bought Office 365 Personal.  Following the directions in the package and on screen I enter the alpha-numeric product code in the allotted boxes, checking to make sure they are correct.  I click on "Continue," there is a brief notice saying something about setting it up, and then nothing.  Nothing.  But the software isn't loaded.  What can I do?  How can this possibly be so difficult?!?  How can Microsoft not sell (for an awful lot of money) a better product after all this time??

I eventually got this problem solved via the live chat option at Microsoft support webpage.  I got bounced around a couple of times and it did take about an hour of back and forth typing. The problem was resolved by the technical MS staff who had to remove my prior subscription (obtained via free month trial promotion) before I could activate my new subscription with the new product key. So, don't try to respond the issue yourself. Go straight to technical service and have them work it. Good luck!

I bought a new lap top including a 1 year subscription of Office 365 PERSONAL. First I took advantage of the free 1 month trial of Office HOME.  After expiry I tried to renew with my 25 character product key.  I went through the whole process very carefully

    • but nothing happened - no acknowledgement whatsoever.  Do I have to uninstall the trial version being HOME and not PERSONAL version ?

I am encountering the same problem. I have a new Surface Pro 4 and was not aware that a free version of Office 365 Personal came with the system - a card with a product key was in with the system. Shortly after getting the system up and running, I ran Office which installed a trial version of Office 365 Home. Eventually I went through everything that came in the package with the system and discovered the product key card for Office 365 Personal and though that I would eventually get around to updating my profile to use that key. The trial expired and when prompted to activate office, I select the Enter Product Key Instead option and enter the product key. A little green checkmark is displayed and I click on Continue which opened a small box which displays '2. Redeem Online', which I select. That opens a Microsoft Edge browser window at https://setup.office.com/Preferences/Index and I select the appropriate Country and Language options followed by selecting Continue and the system does nothing. I have tried this a number of times since last Friday and even called MS Support Sunday evening. MS Support looked around my system and informed me that I would have to wait 24 hours and to try again. It's been more than 24 hours and I get the same results. I have read on other websites of this happening and the solution was for MS to remove reference to the expired version of Office Home from the user's Microsoft profile. I suppose that MS has to do this because I cannot find any way to remove a product from my account. When I go to My Account, I get a window stating 'ou currently have no Office products stored here. To setup Office 365, please enter your Product Key. Need help finding your other products?' This is frustrating and I really do not have the time to sit on the telephone for an hour or more to resolve this issue. I guess I'll call another day when I have time unless someone provides an answer in this forum.
