I am encountering the same problem. I have a new Surface Pro 4 and was not aware that a free version of Office 365 Personal came with the system - a card with a product key was in with the system. Shortly after getting the system up and running, I ran
Office which installed a trial version of Office 365 Home. Eventually I went through everything that came in the package with the system and discovered the product key card for Office 365 Personal and though that I would eventually get around to updating my
profile to use that key. The trial expired and when prompted to activate office, I select the Enter Product Key Instead option and enter the product key. A little green checkmark is displayed and I click on Continue which opened a small box which displays
'2. Redeem Online', which I select. That opens a Microsoft Edge browser window at
https://setup.office.com/Preferences/Index and I select the appropriate Country and Language options followed by selecting Continue and the system does nothing. I have tried this a number of times since
last Friday and even called MS Support Sunday evening. MS Support looked around my system and informed me that I would have to wait 24 hours and to try again. It's been more than 24 hours and I get the same results. I have read on other websites of this happening
and the solution was for MS to remove reference to the expired version of Office Home from the user's Microsoft profile. I suppose that MS has to do this because I cannot find any way to remove a product from my account. When I go to My Account, I get a window
stating 'ou currently have no Office products stored here. To setup Office 365, please enter your Product Key. Need help finding your other products?' This is frustrating and I really do not have the time to sit on the telephone for an hour or more to resolve
this issue. I guess I'll call another day when I have time unless someone provides an answer in this forum.
