Why not Visio for home use?

I have an Office 365 for home subscription and I absolutely love it!  I suspect a lot of people (geeks?) have more powerful computers at home than they do at work and we enjoy using our home equipment for work.  I purchased Office 365 subscription because I wanted to do the right thing; I don't use pirated software.

So why can't you buy a subscription to Visio on your Office 365 Home subscription?  I'm happy to pay for it!  But I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars/CHF for a program I only use occasionally.  I may need it for a few weeks, but I'm happy to pay for a months subscription.  So please tell me why you can't add this program to the package.

And another thing, your online support in general is absolutely abysmal!

Kind regards,

Jim

This is absolutely false!  If you have Office 365 for home you CANNOT sign up for even a Visio 365 trial!  This link takes you to a site that asks you to login but you have to read the fine print before you see that this is only available to Office 365 for business.  So this "answer" is BS!

After years of providing common functionality in Office programs in the various Office bundles, MS is returning to the "bad old days" of subdividing functionality within programs and bundles.  So now, "PowerPivot" has become part of "BI", Business Intelligence, so it is no longer included with "consumer" versions.

The same seems to be happening with Visio and Project.  They are considered "Business" programs and as such they don't play well with "Consumer" offerings.  You can beat them down into submission, but it's not easy.

Visio actually started out as an independent company. Then around 2005 they sold out to MS. The funny thing, although MS now calls it part of the "Office Family", I don't recall it ever being included in any of the Office Bundles.  I could be wrong about that ...

That being said, MS says you can have Visio and 365 home.  That claim is documented in this recent "free upgrade" offer that MS had to make to fix install problems caused by 365/2016: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Special-offer-for-customers-with-Office-2016-and-Office-2013-standalone-applications-c32e3cad-e935-4163-a44f-50d896e10bbc

I too am surprised to a small extent that MS has not offered a "365" subscription version of Visio (and Project).  Oops, I just found that there is a 365 Visio, it is associated with 365 Pro Plus (in other words, you have to have 365 Pro Plus to get 365 Visio, <sigh> ).

You may want to suggest to MS to offer a 365 Visio bundle with monthly subscription that works with the "Consumer" 365 office bundles.  Do that at the "general Office" Uservoice site:

So I've created a new microsoft account and Visio one month trial is loading.  But it also seems to be re-installing all of my subscribed office programmes.  If my subscription to Office 365 (fully paid for a year!) suddenly tells me on 2 Jan that it's expired and I have to re-install from my home subscription I"m going to be royally pissed.  You did say above that Visio is a standalone subscription plan.  You really don't seem to make it easy, so you MS Office team.

    George:

That link is interesting, but is it still relevant?  It started just after 365/2013 was released and finished a year and a half ago.  Since then MS has made substantial changes to 365, like moving to 2106 and they have made substantial changes to 365 plans too.

And the last entry is pretty confusing. They setup a separate 365 account for Visio and then it magically appeared on their home account.  Sounds wonky.

    Hi Jim,

Visio is a powerful tool of Office suits, but it is always an independent products in Office family. We can subscript the standalone Visio for 365 plan and use it with Office 365 for home side by side.
