SPF Record Error when sending to one domain in particular

When we try and send emails to one particular domain sometimes we are receiving a bounceback with a status of:

Status code: 550 5.7.23

This error occurs when Sender Policy Framework (SPF) validation for the sender's domain fails. If you're the sender's email admin, make sure the SPF records for your domain at your domain registrar are set up correctly. Office 365 supports only one SPF record (a TXT record that defines SPF) for your domain. Include the following domain name: spf.protection.outlook.com. If you have a hybrid configuration (some mailboxes in the cloud, and some mailboxes on premises) or if you're an Exchange Online Protection standalone customer, add the outbound IP address of your on-premises servers to the TXT record.

Domain sending from: mxxxa.com.au

Domain sending to: axxv.xs

I was able to validate our SPF record (through MXToolbox) and we are not having issues sending to other domains and it appears that some emails are been delivered ok. For example if the same email is forwarded later on it goes through ok. I was just wondering if the problem would be at our end of the recipients?

    Hi Ghunt03,

After analyzing the SPF record for the domain smxxgo.com, I noticed that it includes “?all” at the end of the SPF record, this may cause the issue.

Given this situation, please modify the SPF record of your domain “mxxxa.com.au” to

    v=spf1 ip4:xxx include:spf.protection.outlook.com –all

To protect the privacy, I have sent the detailed SPF record in private message, please follow the link below to access the private message:

    https://community.office365.com/user/conversations

If the issue still exists after you modify the SPF record, the issue may relates to smxxgo.com. Given this situation, I would suggest you look for expert support from smxxgo.com side, then ask smxxgo.com add your domain in whitelist.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Thanks,

    Poppy

    Poppy,

The reason I have the include:spf.sxxxo.com is so that emails can be sent out from a third party tool. The 3rd party tool allows us to send emails from our scanners and some of our tools that we use.

Has something changed recently as this has only just started to happening and the only reports I have had are when sending to this one particular domain?

Is there another way that this can be setup?

    Hi Ghunt03,

To protect your privacy, I have modified your post.

We cannot have more than one TXT record for SPF for a domain or it may result in email errors, as well as delivery and spam classification issues. After checking the DNS record of your domain, I notice that your SPF value is incorrect for Office 365. Please delete the include:spf.sxxxo.com part from your SPF record to check if the error persists. You can refer to the article below:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Create-DNS-records-for-Office-365-at-any-DNS-hosting-provider-7b7b075d-79f9-4e37-8a9e-fb60c1d95166#BKMK_add_TXT

In addition, may I know why you add the include: spf.sxxxo.com part to your SPF record? You can let us know your requirement so that we can check if there is any workaround.

    Regards,

    Poppy
