Office 365 ProPlus benefit with NYC Dept of Education eligibility issues

Regardless of news and hype, pretty much every posting coming from NYC school educators seems to indicate that their required email address is invalid  “We can't sign you up right now because we can't verify your school is on our list of eligible institutions. Check back in a few days to see if your school is eligible...”

On February 11, 2015, Anthony Salcito (Vice President, Worldwide Public Sector Education, Microsoft) announced that all NYC 1.1 million students and teachers were now able to access Office 365 freely through the partnership announced by City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito -

Today, 1.1 million students in the New York City Public Schools are taking a significant step forward in their educations and will now have free access to the productivity powerhouse that is Office 365.In collaboration with the City Council, the New York City Department of Education is making the Office 365 ProPlus benefit available to all teachers and students – at no cost – providing them with up to five downloads of the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access and Publisher, along with anywhere, anytime access to OneDrive cloud storage. Students and teachers can also download Office to 5 additional mobile devices (smartphones or tablets).

What is the process for activating and registering for Office 365? I am the School Librarian and the admin on our website. I would like to use my portal to add a link through which teachers and students can sign up and access Office 365.

It looked promising, but when I entered my NYCDOE email, an error message arose:

    • No information matching the provided fields exists in the system. Please note, the information you enter must match the information on your Blue Card on file with your child’s school. A student’s legal guardian may visit the main office at the school to make any necessary changes to their contact information. You may be requested to present government-issued photo identification in order to update your contact information. Please allow up to 10 days after any changes for your information to be updated in the system.

Possibly, there is a different login/create account link for educators?

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Hi -

I contacted them twice with the same results.  Next time when you are trying to redirect someone check if your suggestion makes sense.

This is the problem that I mentioned above that Microsoft rather use customer support to redirect into "black hole" instead of helping people out.

I had the same experience as @dancooked.  Furthermore, I tried my son's email account that he was given by his NYC public school and result was the same.  I called Microsoft and spoke to multiple reps, none of them were even remotely familiar with this offer.  Looks like in Microsoft one hand "licenses and support" does not know what other hand "marketing" does or signs.

Furthermore, I purchased Surface Pro 3 for my son to do the school work.  After a month Office 365 license expired and I do not know who to contact.  My son asked people in his school and they did not hear anything about this offer.
