Hi,

I bought office 2016 (product key - 1 machine) and put it on my laptop.  I recently got a new laptop and want to deactivate/uninstall it on the old laptop and use it on my new laptop.  Is this possible ? How do I do it ? I already installed it on my new machine but it said that it was activated a maximum number of times.

    Hello,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting your query.

I suggest you to uninstall the Office 2016 application from the old computer, install it on new computer and then try activating the Office application on new computer using phone and check if it helps.

To uninstall Office application, kindly refer to the following Microsoft article.

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Uninstall-Office-2013-Office-2016-or-Office-365-from-a-Windows-computer-9dd49b83-264a-477a-8fcc-2fdf5dbf61d8?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

Once the uninstallation is completed, install it on new computer and activate it using the steps mentioned below:

You’ll find the number in the Activation Wizard:

    1. In any Office application, click File > Account > Activate Product.
    2. In the Activation Wizard, click I want to activate the software by telephone > Next.**Tip:**If nothing happens when you select Next, use the Enter key on your keyboard.
    3. Select your country/region.
    4. Call the Product Activation Center phone number that’s under Step 1.

Hope the information helps. Do reply if you need further assistance, we will be happy to help you.

    Thank you.

I called MS Customer NO SUPPORT and was told there is NO WAY to find your Install Key after it is installed. Mine was purchased via the HUP and the link, less than 8 months old, gives an error saying it is an invalid link to the Install Key. I have the emailed receipt, but there is not Install Key in the email.

After waiting for an hour with MS Chat, i was dragged around for over 45 minutes by someone that didn't even act like they understood my issue. I even offered to submit a copy of my receipt after providing them with the receipt information over chat.

They were useless! There has to be a way to reuse the Install Key, find the install key and get reliable MS Support from someone smart enough to understand the situation.

I am not happy with MS anymore, they don't care about the Consumer and don't provide support after the sale.

Sorry James, I missed that you live in the UK.

I vaguely remember reading that MS has the same kind of phone service in the UK, but can't recall where I read it. Maybe if you read for 2 hours on the Internet, you'll find it??

If you don't mind, you can use a public domain app instead of Microsnot products?

If they keep this up, I'm switching to another brand word processor and spreadsheet.

Sorry you had to spend the money.

I consider that kind of "commerce" to be EXTORTION.

    Let me say it plainly:

Microsnot's new "CLOUD" policy is EXTORTION.

That's the new business model that everybody uses now a'days, esp. in engineering graphics.

It's morally corrupt, and God will judge these criminals one day for their extortion and expropriations.

    "Cheers!" ...

I also have the same issue. I update my laptop and my wife updates her laptop both once a year. So far I have three copies of Office 2016 registered to my email and it looks like I need to purchase again as yet again I find the system tells me I can not use my existing licence numbers. To make matters worse I tried telephone support and when I choose my country which is United Kingdom I find that Microsoft has withdrawn telephone support for Office in the UK!

I have been using windows since windows 1.11 and Office since 2003. always upgraded when new software was available and over the years probably spent tens if not hundreds of thousands of UK pounds with Microsoft. I am so disgusted with the withdrawal of telephone registration support. My next laptop will be Apple! As will the rest of my family.

I found an answer by going round-and-round on Google searches for about 2 hours.

It brought me back to that worthless MS "Virtual Agent":

    Telephone activation is still supported

You can ignore the error that says telephone activation isn't supported. You can still activate by telephone using these steps:

    1. In the Activation Wizard, select the option to activate by telephone, (If this option is disabled, you're using Office 365, which doesn't support telephone activation.)

    2. From the US, call 866-421-7141.

    3. When prompted, provide the Installation ID that's shown in the Activation Wizard under Step 2.

    4. The Product Activation Center will provide a Confirmation ID that you enter in the Activation Wizard under Step 3,

    5. Select Next and follow the prompts to complete the activation process.

Hope that does it for you!
