Installing Office 2010 on to Windows XP 64 bit

I recently purchased Office 2010 from my company's Home Use Program through Microsoft.  I'm running Windows XP 64 bit edition and get an error message saying that:

"To install and use this product, you must be running one of the following operating systems:

x86 platform

-Windows 7

-Windows Vista SP1

-Windows XP SP3

-Windows Server 2003 SP2

x64 platform

-Windows 7

-Windows Vista SP1

-Windows Server 2008

Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run setup."

I don't really want to install a new OS.  Is there a way I can get Office 2010 to install or barring that, can I reinstall XP using 32 bit rather than 64 bit without affecting anything else on my computer?

Actually Office 2010 won't run on XP 64 bit, only 32 bit with sp3.  XP 64 bit was the "____" operating system that is so incompatible with most software that it wasn't widely supported by most software writers.

From TechNet, System requirements for Office 2010 Professional Plus (and all other Office 2010 products) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624351.aspx#section1 "Windows XP with Service Pack (SP) 3 (32-bit), Windows Vista with SP1 (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-bit or 64-bit) with MSXML 6.0 installed, Windows Server 2008 or later (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit). Terminal Server and Windows on Windows (WOW) (which allows installing 32-bit versions of Office 2010 on 64-bit operating systems) are supported"

You note that Win XP 64 is NOT mentioned.

To install 32 bit XP you would have to do a clean install of the operating system and then totally reinstall all drivers, programs and data on the partition that XP was and is installed onto.

I know this is a very old thread...but I found it while searching the net. I recently installed Windows PX on my Mac (in Parallels) because I needed an XP machine for some old software and I loaded up Windows XP x64.

You can trick Office 2010 into installing (and it runs great) all you need to do is use the Microsoft Application Verifier and set the compaitbility mode so it sees the right OS and Service Pack Level.

It's extremely fast on my Macbook Pro And I only gave the Windows VM 1GB of Ram.

When you purchased there would have been support details  supplied. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2267642

Is winxp updated with Important updates (sp3?)

And no you cannot reinstall winxp 32bit without compromising everything

everything I research tells me that SP2 is the latest version of service packs available for the 64 bit version of XP.
