Table properties are not being applied to the table.

Hi,

Word 2016 for Mac is not applying properties I set.  two examples :

  1. I have highlighted the top row and set it as a header to repeat on each page.  This is not happening.
  2. I have set the table properties to NOT allow rows to break across pages.  However rows are all being split across pages.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks

The cause of both issues simply is that the table has Text Wrapping applied to it, which makes it a floating object. That prevents the properties you've applied from going into effect.

To correct the issue;

  1. Click in the table
  2. Go to Table> Properties
  3. Click the icon for None in the Text Wrapping section

Thank you Bob !  I would never have found that or even looked as an option.  What a weird linkage which I don't really understand but it fixed it a charm.

Onwards and upwards and lesson learned !!

The original table document is here

The main document into which it was pasted is here

Let me know if these work - the links will disable on the 6th.

    Hi Bob,

Office is fully updated (checked at 15.18) and Mac OS X is at 10.11.3.

The document began as a regular A4 portrait document.  I then needed to insert a table from a separate document which was landscape.  I inserted a section break and adjusted the page layout to landscape and did a copy and paste of the table.  I have just checked and the original document which contained the table seems to behave in a similar way.

I will drop copies of the documents in Box and send you a link.

    Regards

    Bryce M.

I'm not seeing either misbehavior here & haven't been able to reproduce it. Since I haven't seen any similar reports the first concern s whether your installation of Office 2016 is fully updated... Version 15.18 is the current level. Also confirm that your version [?] of OS X is updated as well.

If those measures don't resolve the problem please provide as much additional descriptive detail as possible. Include the exact steps you're taking, a history of the document, as well as whether the same problems occur in a new blank document. It might also help to see a screen shot, but a link to a shared example file would be far better.
