"Normal" style is hidden in Quick Styles

I have created a style sheet and set it as the default in my documents.  But the Normal style is hidden and despite hours on communities and help sites, I cannot unhide it.  Normal is also not set as the default style, so a new document is created with "Table heading" as the default.

Please can someone assist me!  Note that I have already looked through all the forums, so this is not a standard problem. If it will be quicker to delete the style sheet or default template and start again, I am happy to do that. It took me hours to set up my own template but it is taking far more hours to work out how to display the Normal style!

One other place it could be is in the Modify Style dialog. Make sure it is checked to Add to Quick Styles.

Also, you need to click on the radio button for "new documents based on this template."

What do you mean when you say that the Normal style isn't the default? If you are saying that "Table heading" is applied to the first blank paragraph that you see when creating a new Word document, all you have to do is open the Normal template as a document, reapply the Normal style with Ctrl+Shift+N, save and close the template.

By the way, "Table heading" isn't a built-in paragraph style, as far as I know, so you can delete it from the template if you wish.

If you need to change your styles shown in the Quick Styles, you need to get to this Manage Styles > Recommend dialog.

Renaming or deleting the normal template seems a bit overkill.

Open the normal template. How to Open the Normal Template

Use the Styles Pane to find the normal style. You will want to have the styles in alphabetical order and show all styles. Select All and apply the normal style. Save the template. Is the Normal style showing in your Quick Styles? Note, the Quick Styles are far from all the styles available.

    If not, write back.

Do not put any text in your normal template.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Let us back up the template that is created and try renaming the Normal.dotm and check if it helps.

You may refer to Method 5 in the following link.
