I have the cd for Microsoft office: Mac 2008 home & student edition. But the cd doesn't seem to work and I need to install it in my re-booted iMac. Can anyone share the link for the download to install this.

There is no digital download of Office 2008... at least not from a legitimate source. However, you can install from anyone's full-version Office 2008 DVD as long as you use the Product Key supplied with your copy.
I have the same problem, I have the disc I purchased but when I try to install I get the error that there is no program to install. This is very odd since the disc is in the computer. Can anyone help? Also the Product ID I received is different than the one I received the first time....

Office 2008 never has been provided as a digital download - You should be well aware of that.
The only available downloads are the updates for Office 2008 which are useless without a base installation.
