Inserting a Slider

I have searched everywhere for how to insert a "Slider" in my Excel document.   I have Office 2016 for Mac.  Every video or instruction I have found gives great instructions but I don't seem to, in my Excel document, have the ability to do the actions they suggest.

The formal name of the "slider" control is "scroll bar." To be able to insert a scroll bar, you must first turn on the hidden Developer tab of the Ribbon. To turn on the hidden Developer tab of the Ribbon, go to the Excel menu and choose Preferences. In the View preferences, click the box for In the Ribbon Show > Developer Tab.

Now click on the Developer tab, click on the Scroll Box control and drag across a worksheet to add your slider control. Right-click on the control and choose Format Control to set its properties.

Are you referring to a device that enables adjusting the value in a cell? If so, I imagine the resources you're using pertain to the Windows versions of Excel. On a Mac it's much the same but you first need to display the Developer tab. If it isn't showing [as the right-most tab on the Ribbon] go to Excel> Preferences> View, then check the box in the bottom section.

You can use either the Scroll Bar tool or the Spinner tool... the former provides a draggable scroll bar control with arrow buttons at either end, the latter provides only the arrow buttons. Both can be scaled & moved as desired.

Once you create the control, right-click it & select Format Control. (You'll notice that there are not as many properties as you may have seen in the resources you've looked at, but there may be more you can do if you're familiar with VBA.) Enter the appropriate values then click OK. Deselect the control to make it operable. If you need to alter the size, position or properties, right-click the control to select it.
