converting powerpoint to video in mac 2016

Does anyone have an idea why microsoft removed save as video in the 2016 version.  That is the only way to share powerpoint across most platforms.  This seems just crazy but maybe there is an explanation.  Maybe I should join the flock leaving ms behind and switch to other tools.

This feature was in Office 2011, but didn't work so well. As one example, it didn't capture narrations.

Office 2016 for Mac is a complete rewrite of the software. The first versions were bare bones software and features have been added with each update. Microsoft has said that they intend Office for Mac to have feature parity with the Windows version, but they still have some considerable way to go in that department.

Here's a workaround for the video export problem using QuickTime Player. As a bonus, it includes narrations as well:

  1. Open your presentation in PowerPoint and resize the window to the size you want your video to be (i.e. 640x480 pixels, etc.).
  2. Select Slide Show>Set Up Show...
  3. Under Show type, choose Browsed by an individual (window), then click on OK.
  4. Start your Slide Show.
  5. In QuickTime Player, choose File>New Screen Recording.
  6. On the Screen Recording dialog, click the red button in the middle.
  7. Drag your mouse to select the PowerPoint window.
  8. Click on Record.
  9. Run your slideshow. When you're finished, click on the square dot inside a circle on the OS X menu bar to stop QuickTime. Save the video file.

    Hello John,

I tried with Quicktime 7 recording as a new screen recording.  I have narration and music in my PowerPoint (PowerPoint 2016 for Mac - Home Edition) presentation, but this did not carry over into the Quicktime recording.  What would you suggest would be a fix?

    Best,

    Allison

FWIW Microsoft is working on fixing this long-broken feature. You can add your vote to getting it done here:

    Hey,

I think that the option to save presentation as video in Powerpoint 2016 for mac unfortunately seems to have been removed. It was a fine option in earlier version. I suggest that you vote for the option to be brought back to Powerpoint by submitting your feedback in this link - as given in here - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2460919 and if this link does not work you can give your feedback from the option in the Powerpoint 2016 app - as shown here - https://support.office.com/en-us/article/How-should-I-provide-feedback-for-Office-2016-for-Mac-5af00103-9056-4c07-bcae-dea73a13a176.
