This message applies to OneNote 2016, installed as part of Office Professional Plus 2016.  When I click on the "Quick Notes" link in the bottom left of the window, the message "Loading.... Please Wait" is displayed, and never updates.  All other options to add sections, pages, etc. are "ghosted" or "grayed out."  Please see the attached image... and please help!  Thank you!!

I had exactly the same problem.

My Quick Notes was linked to a Notebook stored in OneDrive. Once I created a Notebook stored in my user profile and linked Quick Notes to a section in this local Notebook, I was then able to have Quick Notes function correctly.

Check in File Menu > Options > Save & Backup and see what your Quick Notes Section is pointing to. Change it to a local Notebook if it's pointing to a Notebook stored in OneDrive (or SharePoint).

I found a temporary solution until MS can get this issue fixed.

I found this page and did everything it said: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office\_365hp-onenote/onenote-2016-application-issue-with-quick-notes/d0b8901e-c610-4e20-b9e3-a4c5bfc1fbcd

I then found the Quick Notes icon in the Hidden Icon section on the taskbar. Once I closed Quick Notes and then opened closed OneNote (a couple of times) it started working. I could even backup my Notebooks. Now if I can just keep the program closed for good. It does restart on its own or when every OneNote is restarted.  Pain the ....

Suggestion does not work.  Even tried reloading Office 365. Didn't work.  Also, this issue is stopping the backing up of the notebooks. That is how I discovered it.  Went to backup the notebooks manually and recieved this error message:

"This section is from a later version of OneNote and is read-only. To continue editing you need to upgrade this section."

I found two notebooks that I hadn't touched since having Office 2007.  Converted them, yet backup and Quick Note issues continues.  I live by Onenote and not being able to backup my notebooks is not good.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've tried so many different combinations of configuring the target Notebook for Quick Notes, that I can't recall if this is something new, but.... I will follow these steps to the letter and report back.  Thanks again, wish me luck!
