PowerPoint 2016 Picture Placeholder sized correctly but ends up too small to show icon to select the picture

Hi all,

I have a powerpoint template and i need to add picture placeholders that have a particular width and height but when I resize the picture placeholder to that size when you use the template the icon that usually appears in the placeholder for you to browse for your chosen picture isn't shown. I think its cause its not resized to deal with my required dimensions but if I make it larger then the image in the presentation itself will be incorrectly sized.

Any way to both have the placeholder use a particular size and allow the template user to select a picture

It looks like you don't need to change the font size, just zoom in to see the icon. Not ideal really

I loose the icon at a zoom level of 110% and get it at 120%

Navigation controls would be an example, Social Media icons could be another.

So is there no way to have a picture-placeholder smaller than 1.37cm and still be able to insert an image easily?

The icon should show if the placeholder is at least 1.37cm square. But this is already too small to show photos in detail. What content would a user need to place that is so tiny?

    1. Switch to slide master view in Powerpoint 2016
    2. Insert a picture placeholder and resize it so its 1cm x 1cm and another that you size 12cm 12cm
    3. Exit slide master view and create a new slide using the layout you modified in step 2
    4. Notice that while the 12cm picture placeholder has a handy icon to select your picture the 1cm version doesn't and you can't easily browse for pictures or know that its a picture not text thats required
