Word 2016 crashes when copying and pasting from web pages

Currently, I have Word version, "16.0.6828.1019" 64-bit that a crash occurs when taking simple text or an image from a web page and attempting to paste into a work document.

Steps taken to reproduce the issue

  1. Launch Word, select new document
  2. Go to website and then select text and an image by (drag mouse over text and image or right button click on image and copy picture)
  3. Paste text/image into word document
  4. Observe

Results:

Word will crash each time. This is true with any browser that I have used.

I checked with a few friends and they too are experiencing the same issue.

NOTE: This did not occur with the previous version "1016" of Word.

Anyone else having this issue?

UPDATE:

I found a way to avoid this issue and still copy and paste into a word document with the current version.

Image:

  1. Right button click the image and paste into a paint app
  2. Then cut or copy the images from the paint app and then paste into word

Text:

  1. Select the text, then right button click and copy that you want to place into word document (note, all formatting will be lost)
  2. Open text editor and then right button click and select paste
  3. Select the text form the text editor that you want to include in the word document and then paste the text into the word document

Results:

The image and text were copied into the word document without crashing. It is just a matter of formatting and moving the image around to suit your desire.

This is a pain, but a workable solution for copying and pasting into word without crashing.

NOTE: I have not experienced this issue with any other Office faucet, such as Excel, Access, Publisher. However, I do experience some issues when attempting this with Outlook.

    Hi everyone,

I’m told that his issue is now fixed in the latest Office 2016 update, which we recently released.

The current version is 16.0.6965.2058. This update contains features in the May feature update described below, plus new security and non-security updates. To find out more, go to our release notes page, and under Channel, click Current.

To get the update immediately, open any Office 2016 app and choose File > Account > Update Options >Update Now

    Best,

    -Erik

Update: Looks like MS has fixed this issue. I have successfuly copied and paste images and text into a word document without any issues. I have been able to copy/paste several times in several documents and no crashes had occurred. I would say this has been put to bed and considered fixed.

I read somewhere else that the problem is due to the last update. It's a right pain!

This is correct. The developers, if I am not mistaken, had crossed links to security features which may be causing the problem of the crash. MS development team is aware of the issue and are looking into on resolving the problem. However, it is not known if the fix will be in the updates next month for Windows 10. We can only have our fingers crossed in hopes that a fix is in the works.
