WORD 2016 - Different First Page and Different Margins

I have created a letterhead in Word 2016 with a "Different First Page".

When I change the "margins" for all subsequent pages to avoid the white space caused by the First page header using the "This point forward" layout option the margin changes but the header from the first page repeats throughout the document, despite "Different First Page" remaining checked. What am I doin wrong, or is it yet another problem with this application.

Different first page is a property of the Header, itself, whereas Headers/Footers & Layout specifications (margins, orientation, paper size, columns, etc.) are properties of Sections. If you want to vary the Layout you need to create appropriate Section Breaks, then change the specifications for the respective Sections.

MVP Suzanne Barnhill provides an excellent tutorial for creating a multi-page letterhead template. It uses the Windows version as a model so you'll have to do a little 'translation', but if you intend to do this with any degree of frequency [i.e., more than once] it's well worth learning what is required to do it right:

“How to set up a letter template”—how to create a letterhead (Word 2007 and above), have different margins on the first page, set up letter styles, etc.

Thanks Bob. I followed the link and had to recreate the document as it was inheriting something that was messing up the "Different First Page" feature and giving two "Different First pages", then the document text plain. Bizarre program.

With your help, I got it in the end. K
