Pictures don't appear on screen when pasted [Microsoft Office 365 2016]

Hello,

I've got Microsoft Office 365 2016 on a Windows 10 computer. After copying an image from my browser or elsewhere, I try to paste it into word but instead I get a small invisible box which when selected doesn't even open to the picture tools.

I've just recently started experiencing this issue after updating my Office. This happens in PowerPoint as well. Sharing the screenshot below:

Are you sure it is a file type that Office can handle, like JPG?  (I assume it is, but have to ask).

Exactly how are you inserting these images into the files? Describe the process, step by step so we can try to recreate it.

Could you upload an example file to OneDrive and give us a Share>Edit link to the file so we can play with it. Thanks.

Try going in to File menu > Options Command >Advanced option > Show Document Content section.  Make sure there is no check mark next to "Show Picture Placeholders".  I doubt this will help also, because placeholders normally take up the same amount of space as the image will.

That capture of yours shows a "diamond" of arrows hanging off the bottom of the image placeholder. I do not recall seeing anything exactly like that.  I am interested to hear what the solution will be.

The Drawing Tools tab appears when I double click on the box that appears instead of the picture - you'll notice it's selected. Usually, I get Picture tools when I select a picture though.

Nothing to do with any Office update, works fine here - copying and pasting the image you uploaded, and a second image from FF -

You seem to have Drawing Tools active?

    Hi,

Yeah it is a JPEG - so say I go onto an image site like Shutterstock on my browser (Firefox), I right click on the image and say Copy Image and then press Ctrl + V on my word document - this used to work before but has suddenly stopped and I think maybe it has something to do with me updating my Office.

I've tried out the Show Picture Placeholders option but it was already unchecked.

The temporary fix is to first paste onto MS Paint and then onto the document but this doesn't let me compress my images - I need to do this as otherwise the document size is too much.

Another temporary fix is to use the Paste Icon from Files and say Paste Special and choose Bitamp and this works but it is too tedious to do all the time. I'm doing this until I get a permanent fix hopefully.

I'm also not getting the option to make the Bitamp one a default paste style which is weird.
