Visio 2016 Click To Run + Volume License Issue

Anonymous

My company has purchased VL (perpetual) editions of Visio Standard 2016, and I am attempting to install it via this method:

https://technet.microsoft.com/library/mt703272.aspx

I followed the steps in that and other MS postings, including downloading the latest 2k16 C2R deployment tool and verifying that my XML contained the correct branch (Current) and product ID (VisioStdXVolume).

Deploying to a machine is successful, and Visio 2016 is installed alongside Office 2016 (both C2R). However attempting to put our VL MAK into the activation yields the following error:

This product key is for the volume-licensed version of Microsoft Visio Standard 2016, which isn't currently installed.

Given the product ID above, I believe I installed the right product. The program is also set up to ask for activation, not a 365 login, so I believe that the right version is in fact installed. Help?

hi everyone,

to let other customers who come across this thread to identify the right information easily, i summarized the issue as below. the thread is also closed for further posting for the same purpose.

symptom:

previously this article states that we can use the office deployment tool to install volume licensed editions of visio 2016 and project 2016. moreover, visio and project can be activated by volume activation methods, such as key management service (kms) or multiple activation key (mak).

based on recent tests and users' reporting, mak activation isn't working with this specific installation scenario. we have updated the content in the article as below and we are in the process of issuing new mak keys that will be compatible.

actions

subscribe tothe articleand wait for the new mak keys to be ready. in the interim, use kms activation as a workaround.

@ diegoremolina, from your description above, it indicates that the issue is different from the symptom mentioned as above. given this situation, would you please post a new thread and let's focus on your specific scenario for continued investigation?

@ jimcastro, please post a new thread to let us know with more detailed information about your scenario.

best regards,

daizy

    Did so, and dstatus reports no licenses installed at that point. I do not have any link to install another product after doing the unpkey, and all errors remain unchanged.

    I actually called the VLSC first, and was told that they would only support product downloaded from the VLSC site, and this did not qualify despite being a MS-approved distribution method that is supposed to take VL keys.

    I posted here as I figured it might lead me to more of a Click to Run support space, which I could not find via other methods.

    hi chrisdavidson6816,

    thanks for your clarification.

    from you description, i noticed that the last five characters of installed product key is w4423. therefore, to troubleshot the issue, could you try the following command to remove the product key and re-activate visio 2016 to see if there is any improvement: cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey: w4423 as below:

    if the issue remains when you try activating again, please check if you can click install this product instead as shown in the screenshot below? after installing the update, could you check the licensed status to see if there is any improvement?

    if the issue persists, since our forum focuses on office 365 for business online services, we would suggest you get further assistance via our volume licensing service center which a specific support channel for volume license related questions and issues.

    your understanding is highly appreciated.

    regards,

    shirley

    1: note that this is both the download and config xml i have been using. however, i get the same error when i only install the visio product (leaving out proplus) the install itself does work successfully, and there are no other visio versions in my repository.

    <configuration>

     <add sourcepath="\server\office365-2k16" officeclientedition="32" branch="current">

       <product id="o365proplusretail">

         <language id="en-us" />

       </product>

       <product id="visiostdxvolume">

         <language id="en-us" />

       </product>

     </add>

     <updates enabled="true" updatepath="\server\office365-2k16" branch="current" />

     <display level="none" accepteula="true" />

    </configuration>

    2: i cannot use the oct or config.xml as it is a c2r install. in-app product activation reports the error in my first post. the ospp.vbs activation reports: the software licensing service reported that the product sku is not found.

    3: yes, a couple different machines, one brand new with no prior office installs

    4: dstatus result - note that the office365proplus has not been activated either as this is a fresh machine.

    product id: 00369-00000-00000-aa986

    sku id: 361fe620-64f4-41b5-ba77-84f8e079b1f7

    license name: office 16, office16visiostdxc2rvl_kms_clientc2r edition

    license description: office 16, volume_kmsclient channel

    license status: ---oob_grace---

    error code: 0x4004f00c

    error description: the software licensing service reported that the application

    is running within the valid grace period.

    remaining grace: 29 days (42970 minute(s) before expiring)

    last 5 characters of installed product key: w4423

    activation type configuration: all

    dns auto-discovery: kms name not available

    activation interval: 120 minutes

    renewal interval: 10080 minutes

    kms host caching: enabled

    hi chrisdavidson6816,

    to troubleshoot this issue, could you help us confirm the following information?

    1. to identify if the visio application is installed successfully, could you provide us with the xml file so we can do a test in our side?
    2. to activate the visio application, did you refer to the steps in the following article?

       activate office 2016 mak clients

    1. have you tried another computer to check the outcome?
    2. if it’s convenient, how about changing a different key?
    3. also please run the command below to check and gather the licensing information of the affected computer:

       •get the license information of visio/office program.

        a. open command prompt with administrator rights.

        b. type in cscript “c:\program files\microsoft office\office16\ospp.vbs” /dstatus. then press enter.

    note: if you are using office 32-bit platform, use this command instead: cscript “c:\program files (x86)\microsoft office\office16\ospp.vbs” /dstatus.

       •version of office

        a. open run command and type in appwiz.cpl

        b. on the program and features window, look for the microsoft visio standard program.

        c. screenshot the window and send it over to me.

        d. open/launch visio standard 2016.

        e. go to file tab > account.

        f. screenshot the page and send it over to me.

      to upload screenshots, you can click use rich formatting and then click the icon of insert/edit media.

    we look forward to your updates.

    best regards,

    kerwin
