Reactivating Office 2016 on a new PC

It should be no problem, once you learn the new process.

ALL Office 2016/365 licenses are now associated to an email account when they are activated.  Once that initial activation is done, you no longer need (or can) use the product key.  Instead, on your new machine, log in to the MyAccount site: **http://office.com/myaccount** 

and "manage" your license from there.

If you click on the install button/link you should see a page listing licenses associated with your email and any computers that the license is installed on. Since the old computer is dead, click on the "Deactivate" link beside the old computer name.  Then you can can click on the "install" button/link to do the install on the current computer.

Yes, you can contact MS Support, but the general consensus on the forum is they suck ... (yes, it is a limited size, self selected sample oo take that opinion with a grain of salt, you may get lucky).

Normally for activation problems I'd suggest doing a phone activation and talking to support at the MS activation site because general MS Support doesnt' know diddly about activation, but with 2016/365 that is not really an option. So here is the link to the general MS Support page:

Personally, I prefer using the online chat option over phone support. You talk to the same pool of people, but I think it has a number of advantages.

While this time your supplier is suspect, there have been many complaints where people have bought new computers from large name brand manufacturers and have been told that their brand new, still sealed package OEM product key already belonged to someone else.

I think you are correct about online chat.  I have used that with Microsoft and Dell with some success.  But this time I talked to Office support.  I could give you the sad story about dropped lines but you have heard it before.  On the second call, I got someone who finally told me the Key Code was pirated and belonged to someone else.

I bought it on eCRATER.com which was a selling site for SOFTMALL which turned-out to be a Russian seller.  I think my purchase money is gone and a lesson learned - stick with the reputable sites that guarantee your purchase.  eCRATER does not!

I sent complaints to eCRATER and SOFTMALL but don't really expect to get a valid key code.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I logged into my MSN account but it doesn't show any licenses at all. Shouldn't the Windows 10 license show there too?  I am a MSN subscriber and use the same primary login email for everything. 

The error message:

Error code: ERR_INVALID_TOKEN

Correlation ID: 12fd9914-1e11-4d4b-b4f4-f8708182f0bc

tells me MS doesn't recognize my Office 2016 key code.  It worked before on the old PC. I double checked the code with the original email from July that I kept. Office 2016 was activated on my old PC from the end of July until it died in November.

I there someone I can talk to at MS that can activate it? Or did I get scammed on eBay?

This is very frustrating.  I was using Office 2010 on my PC and was perfectly happy with it for home use.  But I did a clean install of Windows 10 last summer and I couldn't reinstall Office 2010 because I lost the retail packaging with the Office 2010 product key while traveling the country in an RV for a couple years. So now I have purchased 2 versions of Office, neither of which I can use.  This is very frustrating.
