Hi

I am having difficulties when converting my word table of contents to PDF. When I convert to PDF the numbers are all in the wrong order or are all the same?  How do I fix this and is there a way I can manually over ride this?

I have tried the Control - shift- F9 in different ways

I am using Word 2007

Using CTRL+SHIFT+F9 when you have the Table of Contents selected will convert it to ordinary text.  You should use F9 alone to update the Table of Contents.

If that does not overcome the issue, if you send me a copy of the document, referencing this thread in the covering email message, I will investigate it.

How are you doing the conversion to PDF - via Word's Save As PDF, a third party Save to PDF tool, or with a PDF 'printer'?

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Word Options|Resources|Diagnose)? Is your Office 2007 installation fully updated? See also: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/969691

It would be unwise to unlink your Table of Contents (e.g. via Ctrl-Shift-F9) as has been suggested; while that might work around the problem you're now having, it also means the Table of Contents won't ever update to accommodate any existing or further edits or even the repagination that can occur just by opening the document on a computer using a different active printer than when it was last updated. If you need a short-term workaround, update then lock the Table of Contents before printing, via F9 then Ctrl-F11, then unlock it again after printing, via Ctrl-Shift-F11.

Using CTL SHF F9 to convert the TOC field to text before printing is certainly a worthwhile technique to try to avoid the problem you are having.

Another thing you can try is using a different method to create the PDF.  I know that 2007 didn't originally have the option to use SAVE AS to create a PDF. Check to see if that has been added.  Another option is to download and install a different PDF printer driver to see if that helps.
