Stairs in Visio

Well, I just downloaded Visio Standard yesterday and I already began a floor plan with a drawing scale of 1:1. I finished and wanted to add stairs but when I add stairs they are too large and mess up the entire document. I tried changing the drawing scale and it also totally messes up my floor plan. Is there anything else that I can do? I am trying to avoid having to start over if I can.

I also have this issue.  The scaling of my drawing seems fine, as every other stencil seems to show up accurately.  The stairs, however, are as large as my 33,000 sq. ft. building, if not larger.  Any thoughts on this?

Again, the stairs stencil (both from Building Core and Building Core - Visio 2013) is the only one that is giving me this issue.

When I drag the stairs onto my building the outline is fine, but as soon as I release the mouse button to place it all heck breaks loose.

Attached is a photo of what happens after I place the stairs.

Your scale is off. Just because you defined your structure envelope (outside walls) as 26' x 32' doesn't mean that all objects you insert into your drawing will automatically re-scale to that. Even though you enter measurements into the Shape Data window that you want for a pre-determined room, you still need to start with the correct scale. For example, if you were to draw a map of your home on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, and your scale was 1"=1", then you would need several thousand pieces of paper to build the layout. The same thing holds true for Visio.

Simple answer, start over, go into Page Setup, choose the Drawing Scale tab, click on the 'Pre-defined Scale' radio button and choose 'Architectural' in the dropdown below it. This is a very standard scale to use when building any structural floor layout.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi,

I got this same issue with stairs.. Simply solution is to use floor plan as a template if you are about to place those stairs in your Visio drawings. I checked from floor plan page setup that scale is metric 1:50 as a default in floor plan template.

So I think that key thing is that correct 1:50 scale, so set this before doing anything else or just use floor plan template.

Unfortunately, I you have started from blank document (as I did) changing this scale afterwards will ruin your drawings completely.

I'm experiencing the same issue.  The stairs come in at a ridiculous size.  Tried the new page with 1:1 suggestion that Winni suggested and had the same results.  Can't seem to scale the stairs properly.  The escalator and Scissor Staircase seem to be fine.  I expect more from this tool.  A simple staircase should have been tested many times.

    Microsoft, please help.

    Hi,

Please create a new page with a drawing scale of 1:1, then add stairs, resize it to what you need. Then copy and past it to your original page to have a try.

If possible, please provide a screenshot about your drawing and stairs. And I would like to do a further test about it.

    Regards,

    Winni
