Can you Copy / Duplicate an O365 user?

We are considering dropping AADSync in favour of a cloud only solution for our email.

If we do continue that approach, I can't see any obvious way to copy an existing users settings into a new user as we would in AD locally, i.e. copy a user, given them a new name and log in, but retain all of their security / distribution group access, and information to save us having to set these up manually for every new user.

Is it possible to "clone" an existing cloud user to a new user to save admin time setting them up?

Thanks

No such thing in O365, but you can prepare a PowerShell script that populates all the needed attributes, sets group membership, gives the user license, sets mailbox settings and so on.

    Hey Neil,

I'm gonna have to agree with Vasil's response. O365 does not support similar feature yet. You would need to resort to PowerShell for that. Have a script created and use it in the future. In the meantime, you can provide your feed back at this URL.

    Thank you.

More thinking about how the cloud management is different to local AD.

For a new user, I will copy an existing user in AD, so that all the address, security membership and similar info is retained.  Saves a load of time when people are in multiple email list groups that relate to their dept or job role.

I can't see an easy way to do this within the gui of O365 or Azure AD.

    Hi Neil,

After disabling AADSync, existing synced users will become “in cloud” users.

An article for your reference: Understanding Office 365 identity and Azure Active Directory

To totally understand and meet your requirement, we may need to confirm the detailed meaning of "clone" an existing cloud user to a new user. Could you provide more details about your requirement?

    Thanks,

    Lance
