Hi Friends,

I was wondering how can i trace a picture to a shape in powerpoint 2010. However i have tried the scribble / freeform option available in insert shape option but the i am satisfied with the result specially while tracing maps or images with complex curves.

Thanks you,

Ankur Bhati

The best answer is probably:  Don't.

PowerPoint's drawing tools have improved tremendously over the years but the curves are still a little weak, and there's no automated tracing capability at all.

If you have Corel Draw, use it instead.  It's got very capable/flexible tracing options.  Or google "trace image to vector" (without the quote marks) for tutorials for other programs you might have (Illustrator, Photoshop) and online/desktop tracing tools.

There are much better drawing tools in the free Inkscape illustration program. You can export your tracing as an EMF, then import that to PowerPoint and ungroup twice to turn it into an AutoShape.
