I have the same problem but with PowerPoint 2007. Do you know how to do it in PowerPoint 2007?

Responding to this post:

I struck this problem when I scanned a document into Word 2007 using an OCR programme. Usually Word displays a backslash as a backslash but when I scanned a document with backslashes all the backslashes in the original document were replaced by Yen symbols and could not be corrected to a backslash. Typing a backslash into the new document also produced a Yen symbol. Changing to some obscure fonts would display the backslash and when I copied and pasted the offending text into a new or other word documents the backslashes also reappeared. The solution was to select: Word options\Advanced\Lay out this document as if created in: and use the drop down menu to change "Custom" to any version of Word on the list. This is at the bottom of the Advanced options.

    Please try these steps:

    1. In PowerPoint, please choose Office button>PowerPoint Options>Popular.
    2. Click on the Language Settings... button.
    3. Check that the Primary editing language is set to something other than Japanese.
    4. In Windows, make sure your Language and Keyboard are both set to the same language as your Primary editing language. You should be able to switch this on the Taskbar.
    5. Reopen the presentation, the yen symbols should be backslashes.

Please post again if you need further help.
