I don't know the specific steps to get the checkmark or the 'X' in the image below. The template that is being used is the standard to do list template offered by Excel. you can enter in '1' and a checkmark appears. I have looked and cannot figure out how they are getting the checkmark. Does anyone know the steps that are being used to do so? Does anyone know the steps that have to be taken to get an 'X' to appear that looks similar to the checkmark.

The specific template that is being used is

The checkmark I would like to use is:

Here is a larger image of the checkmark:

While I'm here does anyone know how to get comparison charts like this one are made? What type of software was used to create it? How did they create it? The reason I'm asking is I would like to create something similar. The image below is of a pdf

@Tom for some reason the system will not let me to reply to your answer. Thank you for your answer. unfortunately what you described is not the same type of checks and X's as those in the images and to do list above. Does anyone know how to get the same style checks and X's as in the to do lists and images above?

    Hi Claudius,

Based on your description, you would like to add tick marks and cross marks as the image you provide in Excel workbooks. I would like to suggest you follow the steps below to achieve it by using the "Webdings" font. You can also edit the size, color and format.

    1. Select the cells where you want to add the mark, change the font as Webdings.
    2. If you would like to add a tick mark, please type “a”.

    1. If you would like to add a cross mark, please type “r”.

    Regards,

to get a check point,  format the cell to have font WindDings2 and the type an uppercase P in the cell and hit enter.  For an "x", then type in an upper case O (oh) and hit enter.

You can use a worksheet to create such a chart.  Just type in your data and format to achieve the appearance you want.

I saw your question a day ago, but the site wouldn't let me reply.

You have a couple of options. One is to find a free or paid template that does what you want. Google is your friend. Here are a couple of examples I found with a quick search. I used these search terms “excel comparison chart template” to find these possible answers to your question:

    https://www.template.net/business/charts/comparison-chart-template/

    http://www.wordstemplatespro.com/product-comparison-templates-excel.html

    https://www.edrawsoft.com/comparison-chart-example.php

The other option is to use conditional formatting. There is a Check/Cross predefined icon set, you can remove the 3^rd^ option and set the second one to the X.

Home tab > Styles group > Conditional Formatting drop down > New Rules gives you this dialog

You have to set "format Style" to Icon Sets, then pick the cross/checkmark Icon style.  Then you can define the values that apply the icons you want to see.
