Hello. Whenever I use Microsoft Word, I get an error saying - "Compile error in hidden module: 'link'. This error commonly occurs when code is incompatible with the version, platform, or architecture of this application."

I am using a Macbook Pro late 2008 and this issue has only begun recently. The error pops up when I start or quit Microsoft Word.

Phillip is on the right track.

ANY add-in that was written with 32-bit Office in mind needs to be updated to work in 64-bit Office.

This article from Microsoft lists several add-ins that are known to result in the compile error. You must install 64-bit versions of the add-ins to correct the problem.

The error message suggests a poorly designed add-in which is interfering with Word's normal behavior or undesired code added to the Normal template. Using the Knowledge Base article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/921541 you can troubleshoot COM and Startup add-ins as well as find instructions on renaming the Normal template.

The defective extension is installed Adobe It is a 32-bit extension and Office 2016 recent versions are 64-bit. You need to go adobe's website and look for the extension, download it, and install it. After removing old one. Its's actually Adobe's obligation to automatically update these extensions. But software companies rarely do what they should do. If they can get away with customers taking it upon then themselves fix the problem they the company causes , they will.
