Need to insert an Excel spreadsheet into a word document but the excel sheet is intended to be printed in landscape. How can I insert it into a word doc and rotate it so that it fits on the page?

If you need to have the sheet content able to be updated it must be inserted as a Linked or Embedded Object, not as a Picture or a PDF. As I wrote, however, an Object of either type cannot be rotated. The page containing the Object needs to be set off by Section Breaks which enable changing the Orientation of the page in only that Section to Landscape. If necessary, see Word Help on the subject entitled Change page orientation as well as other topics concerning Section Breaks.

Note: Whenever Section Breaks are used to vary Margins, Orientation, or certain other Layout parameters it can cause considerations when printing [or generating a PDF]. Many printers do not like to change those parameters 'on the fly' so the document may have to be printed in segments based on the Sections where those variations occur.

For automatically updating the link when the document is printed, go to Word> Preferences - Print, then check the box to Update Links. There is a similar check box in Word> Preferences> General to have links update each time the Word document is opened.

A few years late on this one, but someone just might find this useful.

While linked or embedded objects cannot be rotated, text boxes can.  Rather than linking or embedding the object directly into the body of the document, link or embed it inside a text box.  When you rotate the text box, the object will rotate along with it.  Keep in mind that when you focus on the object inside the text box (i.e. you click or right-click it), it will temporarily lose its rotation until it loses focus ( i.e. you click elsewhere).  You can, of course, remove the border from the text box, and it will appear that your object is part of the main body of your document.

Assuming that the content displayed in the Word document will not have to be updated you can either:

In Excel: Select the range then hold Shift while you go to Edit> Copy Picture, then choose 1 of the options in the Copy Picture dialog. When you paste into the Word document you'll be able to rotate it just like any other picture. However, if the data or appearance ever needs to change you'll have to modify the sheet & repeat the process to replace the previous picture.

    Or...

Copy as usual in Excel, then in Word use Edit> Paste Special & choose either Picture or PDF. Do not select the Paste link option: You won't be able to rotate as Picture & the process will fail if as PDF.

If the content will have to be updated, embedded or linked worksheet objects cannot be rotated. You'll need to create Section Breaks in the document in order to have a Landscape page for the sheet.

What if I followed all the steps and I could import the image and rotate but it looks too small? Whenever I try to enlarge it the numbers and % in the excl object are no longer clear. Is there a way to improve the qualify of the image that i'm importing?

Thanks! Here are more details on the "ideal" scenario I am trying to arrive at.

Have a word doc, big one. Have and excel spreadsheet that itemizes data in the doc and needs to appear as a printed page in the doc. I would like to insert the file in such a way that when printed the link is automatically updated. But, the object which is the spreadsheet in the doc will need to be rotated 90 degrees. Can this be done?
