I am unable to rename a worksheet in Excel 2010

I right click on a worksheet tab, and Rename is greyed out. The worksheet is not protected, but I'm thinking that the workbook is. How do I correct this, step-by-step?

What if the file is not protected and the rename option or copy options are grayed out?

I just had this problem.  I was overlooking the Protect Workbook since the icon read "Protect Workbook".   Protect Sheet icon changes between "Unprotect Sheet" & "Protect Sheet" as you turn on & off protect at the sheet level.   But at the workbook level the Protect Workbook always says "Protect Work", it does not change to "Unprotect".  You need to look at the color of the icon.  If it is un-highlighted lighted then protection is OFF for the workbook.  If it is highlighted then protection is ON for the workbook which will cause the "Rename" to be grayed out.  So click it to un-highlight and rename your worksheet.  Hope that works.  It did for me.
