Office 2010 Recent Files list

When using Office 2010 and I want to insert a hyperlink (doesn't matter if I am using Word, Excel, Outlook...), in the Insert Hyperlink window there are various locations to select from, e.g. Current Folder, Browsed Pages, Recent Files. If I select Recent Files - the list displayed includes a number of files and locations that I have not accessed for a very long time. Some of these files don't exist any more. The result is the list takes a long time to display because Windows is probably looking for some of these old/inaccessible files.

How do I edit or clear the Recent Files list?

I've seen many articles concerning the Recent Documents list but this is different. This is Recent Files  and the list seems to be identical no matter which Office product I use.

Found the answer in the end.   The shortcuts were within the "AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent"   folder.

Problem was I had three folders with that path:

    "C:\Users*username*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent"

    "G\Profile\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent"

    "G:\Redirect\AppData\Microsoft\Office\Recent"

It wasn't until I found the shortcuts, and deleted them from, the G:\Redirect  folder that the problem was resolved. I launched Excel and Word, tried to Insert Hyperlink, clicked Recent Files and the list was cleared.

    Got there, finally!

Thank you for the advice but that link takes me to a place where users can post their ideas, whereas I am trying to get an answer to a problem. I'm not convinced posting this on an 'ideas' page is going to get me anywhere.

Stefan - I too have tried searching for the entries in the registry and although it found two, there are more like 20-30, possibly more that always appear up on the list. Deleting those two from the registry didn't seem to make any difference either.

There must be somebody out there that knows where to find this list or how it can be fixed???!!!!

    Hi Jarius

    Thank you for responding.

I have been referred back to that article in numerous google searches but it has no relation to the problem I have. As far as I can tell that setting only applies to the recently used files and is specific for each application. What I'm talking about there is the Recent Files list when you try to insert a hyperlink into a document.
