PowerPoint Slide Show Pen Issue

When I turn on SLIDE SHOW and present on a second screen (using EXTEND to project to the second screen), the inking is not aligned.  The ink will appear in a completely different place than where I draw with my pen.  How do I fix this?

PLEASE NOTE: The pen on my surface is correctly calibrated.  The pen works correctly when I am editing a powerpoint presentation.  The pen works correctly when I am inking in a slide show that is not being projected onto a second screen.  In fact, the pen works correctly when I am editing a powerpoint presentation (not in slide show mode) that is being projected onto a second screen.

The problem only occurs when I try to ink in a slide show that is being projected onto a second screen.  For example let's say I try to ink on the left side of the screen.  The actual lines will appear on the right side of the screen.

I am doing with on a surface pro 3 using a surface pro 4 pen.  This didn't used to happen but started to happen around October.

Please help!

Sean, I'm looking into this problem and I wonder if you are typically docking with a second screen (other than your projector) before this happens? As in, did you undock, then connect to the projector?

I suspect that this is an issue related to screen scaling. Another way to test would be to log off or reboot before you connect to the projector and present. If the problem goes away, then we'll know what's happening.

hi, i have this same problem in Powerpoint 2016. I believe this started once i installed the Creators Edition update. It consistently occurs every time i connect to a projector.

Sorry this is a little late, but I have seen this issue in PowerPoint 2013 too at a client site on Surface Book. Inking works fine when editing slides, but when presenting it shifts like the diagram that Sean added here. I've previously seen a similar issue with Word on Surface Pro 4 with Office 2013. I suspect that this is an Office 2013 issue, but I can't rule out a driver, Win 10 or setup issue yet.

    I would try:

    1. Check for updates for Office (not sure how to do that in 2013, but in 2016 you can do that from the File > Office Account menu.
    2. Run office repair - Control Panel or Settings App (depending on Win 10 version)
    3. Check for Windows Updates.

Previously I believe we fixed the Word issue by running Office Repair. I'll do some more investigation and come back hopefully with a solution...

Update 19/5/2017: I'm almost certain that this is a screen scaling issue with PowerPoint 2013 and High DPI screens. PowerPoint 2016  does not seem to exhibit this issue. Let me know if you are finding differently. To fix, you should sign out of your account and sign in again. You could also reboot as this resets the screen scaling.

i have the same problem, and I actually reinstalled the powerpoint in vain.

I use surface pro 4, and it used to work great until i installed the creator update.

I connect my surface to a 4k monitor as well as a projector.  the problem is persistent.
