Office for Mac OS X 10.9.5

I am in a bind and need some advice.

My hard drive died so after I had a new one installed, the Apple Store loaded Mac OS X 10.9.5.

When I tried to re-load my Mac Office 2011, it wasn't supported.

I have tried to download Mac Office 2016 and even just Excel 2016, but both need Mac OS X 10.10.

I am stuck between Mac Office 2011 and Mac Office 2016 because of Mac OS X 10.9.5.

Does anyone have any advice as to how I can get Word (and more importantly Excel) back on my MacBook Pro with OS X 10.9.5?

Office 2011 is of course supported on Mac OS X 10.9.5.

Check the office minimum system requirement page

Remove office 2011 and 2016 completely and try reinstall it

To both Posters needing Office 2011. You are going to have to either Install using original DVD (if you bout a Permanent licensed version and you need to use the license code on the box. Then you are going to have to update to 14.2 first. Then Update to the most Current version 14.17.0. Before you even try to operate Office 2011.

I would advise, that both of you add and external Hard Drive and set up Time Machine to you don't get in this predicament again.

My Mac with operating system 10.9.5 installed office 2016, but won't open, because it needs 10.10. The advice was to get rid of Micro office 2011 completely, but I'm too nervous to do that, in fear of the new one not loading and then I have nothing.  Can I upgrade my operating system to 10.10 or is that not possible without buying a new computer.
