Need help to understand message rate limits and throttling Exchange Online Office 365

Hi all,

As we know, there are three ways to send email (SMTP client submission, Direct sent and SMTP relay), and there is Recipient rate limit is 10 000 recipients per day. So:

  1. How many email i can send per day with SMTP client submission or SMTP relay?
  2. How many email i can send per minute with SMTP relay?

Hi LinhNguyen,

Office 365 SMTP relay has higher sending limits than SMTP client submission; senders are not bound by the 30 messages per minute or 10,000 recipients per day limits.

However, the reasonable limits are imposed and the service can't be used to send spam or bulk mail. For more information about reasonable limits, see Higher Risk Delivery Pool for Outbound Messages.

    Hi LinhNguyen,

    Actually, “10,000 recipients per day” means “you can only send 10,000 emails per day”. “Recipients” refer to “emails” instead of “receivers” here.

    I want to correct information, please help me:

    1. Office 365 SMTP relay has higher sending limits than SMTP client submission; senders are not bound by the 30 messages per minute or 10,000 recipients per day limits.
    2. With SMTP client submission, we can only send 10,000 emails per day.

    Hi Amanda,

    The recipient rate limit is 10.000 recipients per day, that mean i can send over 10.000 emails per day if i only send email to few recipient?
