    Hi Keven,

Let's try to turn off or disable the application auto-resume option on your Mac. To do this, deselect Reopen Windows When Logging Back In in the confirmation dialog box when you log-out or shut down your computer.

Update us on how it goes so we can further assist you.

    Regards.

This does not address the problem. Keven did not ask how to avoid reopening a document, but how to avoid the infuriating 'Bob'- or 'Clippy'-like message anthropomorphising Office software. Who or what is supposedly saying 'Welcome back!' to the user? It is a mindless piece of code, which should simply display a marker like 'Last edit location', and it should be possible to turn even that message off.
