Can't remove a hyperlink in Word

I have Office Pro Plus 2016 on Win 10 and a maddening problem with Word.

I typed a web address and after hitting 'return' Word changed it to a hyperlink. That's OK.

Now all the text I type after this link is still a hyperlink. When I highlight and right click the text I can get to the hyperlink dialogue box that will allow me to do all kinds of wonderful things with the hyperlink but NOT remove it.

What am I doing wrong? I've been trying to remove this hyperlink for ages and just can't seem to make it work. I feel so stupid!

It seems likely that the additional text is not a hyperlink but is text formatted with the hyperlink style.

If it was a hyperlink you could right click and 'Remove Hyperlink. Otherwise, this option will not be available and you will only have the option to add a hyperlink, with the dialog you posted. In that case, select the text and apply a different style (or CTRL+Space).

When I place my cursor over many of my photos in a document, there is a hyperlink attached to them. This link is the Google search string I used to find the photo on the Internet.  In some cases I am able to remove this hyperlink by clicking the mouse on the "Remove Hyperlink" selection. In other cases that selection is not available. The only selection is "Link." When I click on that, it says, "No items available."  Yet, the hyperlink appears every time I mouse over the photo.

I also have a document with a lot of photos. It is very hard for me to move pictures in this document. I have to wait forever before a picture is ready to move. Then I can only move it a little bit at a time, at which point the mouse loses its grip on the photo.

My computer has lots of memory and I am using a 64-bit version of Office Professional 2016 on a fast Windows 10 computer that has all the updates.

My graphics card is very old. Would updating my graphics card help? It is really take about two minutes for me to move every image.

In the past, this feature was more responsive and I was able to move images without delay. Now the images jump about in spurts and hesitate when I try to drag them. Often I can't drag them at all unless I wait two minutes after I have pasted them into a new location. This is intolerable. I have thousands of pictures to edit.

You are absolutely correct, Graham. Thank you.

Seeing the blue text and the underline, I just assumed it was a link but it wasn't.

So I am stupid after all!

    Thanks again, Graham.
