Mathype inline equations are not in-line

Hi, I am a user of Design Science's Mathype  equation editor software that integrates with MS Word and Powerpoint.  My Organization is an Office 365 client.  After a recent Office 2016 update  (March 15^th^-16^th^ ,2017)on my Windows 10 Laptop,  my “inline” equations are no longer “in line”.  The top of most equations are not even visible within Word and when they are printed to pdf or on paper the equations are no where close to being "in line."

Previous documents and new ones all have the same issue.  I have tried the fixes mentioned on Mathtypes's support site (Dated Nov 3,  2016) but to no avail because I feel it is not the same issue.

This is only a recent problem as all documents new and old worked fine just a few weeks before.  I have version 6.9b of mathtype.

This is a very frustrating problem.

Anyone know a fix or if Microsoft even knows about this issue?  We have about 20 teachers using this in our organization and we would like this solved as soon as possible.  Much of our  evaluation content is developed in WORD.

Hi,

Our Word engineering team has released the complete fix in KB 3085439, which addresses the equation alignment and rendering issue in both display screens and in printed documents, PDF, and XPS files. This fix also removes the requirement to enable the Use subpixel position to smooth fonts on screen advanced option in order to display equations correctly.

Thanks again for your patience on this.

Hi everyone,

Our Word engineering team has released a partial fix in KB 3178720, which addresses the equation alignment and rendering issue in screen displays. To correct the screen display, install this update (KB 3178720), go to File > Options > Advanced, locate the Display section, and make sure that the Use subpixel position to smooth fonts on screen option is selected.

However, this update does not correct the issue when printing documents or saving them as PDF files. We are currently working on a complete fix in upcoming updates. We recommend not uninstalling KB 3178674 as this contains numerous improvements and contains a fix for a security vulnerability.

We apologize for this inconvenience. We are deeply aware how important it is to resolve this issue and are actively working on releasing a fix as soon as possible. We’ll update this thread as soon as we get a fix released.

Thanks,

Michelle V.

Office Team

The problem is caused by the Windows KB3178674 Security Update.  The Microsoft Product Team have been made aware of the issue so hopefully a fix will shortly be available.  In the meantime, if you want the equations to display properly, you will need to uninstall that update.

Problem solved by removing the Windows KB3178674 Security Update.

    Hope MS fixes this soon.
