Document Properties not displaying

Have just installed Office 365 on new computer Windows 10 and transferring files (also Office 365) from old PC. On the old PC, File Properties all display correctly.

In a Word document on the new computer when I click File, the properties are all displayed correctly, but after saving and closing the document, when I right-click on the document and click Properties only two of the property descriptions are displayed: "Content created" [date] and "Date last saved" [date].  I need to see details for all the descriptions as they are displayed in the actual document's Properties.

In the Documents folder I have set up a details column for "Title" and "Comments" which has worked satisfactorily for a few years on the old PC. I have done the same setup on the new computer but the details do not display. Please help.

I ran the Configuration Tool as you suggested Ramon, but there were no problems. I called in my local computer technician who has looked after my computers for years. When he called on site he was as baffled as me as to why I couldn't rt-click and see Property details and why the Title and Comments columns were not populating. He took the laptop away to give more thought. He has now installed Office 2007 with Office 365 as the default program and the columns are now working fine.  I would mention that on my PC Office 365 was installed after Office 2007.  It therefore seems the fault lies within Office 365 and Microsoft should resolve this problem immediately as I am sure many businesses and writers like myself depend on this facility. Despite my subscription I have had to pay for this issue to be resolved.  How I wish there was a suitable alternative to Microsoft!

    Hi Chrisana,

It appears that you're having issues viewing the properties of your Word documents that were transferred from your old computer. For us to effectively assist you with your concern, we would like to know the following:

    • Does this problem happen to all the Word files that you transferred from the old PC?
    • Aside from Word documents, do you also encounter the same issue with other Office and non-Office files?
    • Does the issue also occur to the Word documents created on the new computer?
    • Did you make any significant changes to your PC prior to the issue?

    Regards.

I have only moved a few files for me to check they work ok.

On the old computer, all of my files use a Custom Office Template I created relevant to the content of the document. I copied the Custom Templates from the old computer to the new computer and on the new computer I created a document to check the templates working. Works ok.

On the old computer I still have files in my documents that I have not yet converted to .docx (I convert then as I need them).

I moved one document to the new computer which has the .doc extension - the Properties of this file display correctly on right-click and the columns "Title" and "Comments" display correctly on the Explorer screen (This PC > Documents).

It is the .docx files that are not displaying "Title" and "Comments".

I have checked the File Options in WORD with both computers on and they both appear to have the same options checked or unchecked.  However, I do feel that this problem is an issue with Settings.

As the Properties contain personal information, I am not happy to post an image here because of its public view. Thank you Ramon.

For us to isolate the issue, check if other Office and non-Office files that were moved from the old computer are also affected. We would also like to know if you've tried to Save as the Word files, and see if it makes a difference. Lastly, kindly post here an image showing the Properties window.

Keep us posted and we'll be willing to assist you further.

    Thank you Ramon.

    • Yes, it happens to all the Word files transferred from the old PC.
    • I have not looked at other Office or non-Office files as they are not so important to me as Word.
    • Yes, the issue does occur to Word documents created on the new laptop, which is how I have encountered the problem on the new laptop.
    • I made no changes to the old PC and the new laptop I have only set up. in the last day or two.

I have had both computers on so that I could check Properties setups on both screens and unless I keep missing something, they both appear the same.

    Hope this helps.
