Keep getting  error message when I try to open an xls file. I recently purchased and downloaded Office 365 because my former employer discontinued my Office 2016 subscription when my employment ended. How do I correct this recurring problem?

    Hi Lawrence,

The error message ospprearm.exe has stopped working usually show up if Microsoft Office is still installed on a computer prior to the installation of other Microsoft Office. Upon checking, ospprearm.exe is a tool that sets or reset the expiration date of trial installations of Office. The information was provided by one of the MVP here in the community. We would like to know if you uninstalled the Office 2016 on your computer before installing Office 365. If not, you might want to uninstall both, then reinstall Office 365 again. Check this article to learn how to uninstall an Office from a computer.

We'll be looking forward to your feedback.

After uninstalling all Office programs, I restarted the PC. Then, reinstalled Office 365. Still had the problem. Turns out, after contacting MS Answer Desk, that there was an issue with File Association for .xls files.

The second MS rep fixed it almost immediately after the first one dropped my chat session into the second one's queue without informing her. Started over. Finally seems to be resolved. It had nothing to do with OSPPREAM.exe, just file extension association. Thanks for your assistance.
