Autocorrect keeps glitching in Microsoft Word for Android

Essentially what it says in the title; I've been trying to use Microsoft Word on my android phone and the autocorrect keeps glitching to the point where it makes the app essentially unusable. The problems I have encountered most frequently are:

  1. When I try to delete a word by pressing and holding or tapping backspace the cursor will frequently stop moving in the middle of the word and the remaining undeleted fragment will replicate itself several times (so for example if I tried to delete the word "Microsoft" I might end up with "MicrosMicrosMircosMicros"
  2. If I make a typo and fix it manually, autocorrect will often start automatically changing the word back to the typo. E.g. yesterday I typed "askedPeter" instead of "asked Peter", but when I fixed it and pressed the space button to move onto another word autocorrect changed it back again and continued to try to make that change for the rest of the document as if the typo had somehow been added to the dictionary as a word and "asked Peter" was being recognized as a mistake

There have been other issues but they're mostly small variations on the same two themes - words or sections of words being repeated several times for no apparent reason and typos apparently over-riding the correct version in the app's dictionary.

This problem seems to be isolated to Word; I haven't encountered these problems in any other applications and they're almost constant in Word, so I'm fairly certain it's an issue with the app and not a more general problem with my phone.

Is there any way I can fix this, or is it something I'll just have to put up with?

I am having this problem too! Cleared cache, app is up to date, checked my keyboard settings, etc. I even ended up doing a factory data reset (extreme, I know) but then guess what, two days later and I'm trying to fix up a cover letter... everything you mentioned (partial word repetition, unwanted overtyping, app-reluctance to accept a typed word as real) -yup, it's all still happening. 😫!! Not sure if it matters, but I'm on a motoG, version 6.0.1. If you have had any luck since this post in getting this app to behave (or if you've found a good alternative app) please share? At this point I'm thinking I'll just have to type my text in gmail then paste to word and hope for the best while attempting any subsequent edits or formatting changes. I thought about trying the paid version (office365, right?) but I'd like to first see a statement somewhere by Microsoft promising "it won't do all that crazy glitchy stuff if you cough up the seven bucks, monthly."

The text behavior in this comment box has performed better than the actual word app. 😔

    Hi RBarr_996,

I'm from the Word Android team. We're aware of certain typing issues, and are actively working to resolve them. Some of the issues happen only with certain keyboards. While we fix the issue, could we request you to try using a different keyboard and let us know if you still face severe issues?

The ap was already fully updated. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the updates (after reinstalling the application itself) and neither made a difference.

I have the same problem, the application is updated, I cleared the cache, reinstalled, deleted app data - nothing works at all. It also randomly deletes portions of text when I write, cursor changes position, I get duplicated words. It is IMPOSSIBLE to write anything. I have to click "undo" several times to not lose my document. Please fix it ASAP
