Office 2007 - Onenote 2007 - and now Onenote for windows 10.

My 5 year old computer crashed, I replaced the hard drive, reinstalled windows 10 and office 2007. I am on a fixed income and can't afford to upgrade office. During reinstalling my files, onenote for windows 10 installed instead of what I used with office 2007. Now, Onenote will not recognize my old files.

I have looked at the MS knowledge base and they all assume OneNote can see the files. The version that I'm using doesn't give access to drives, changing directory, or files in any way. It does give a search function to find other notebooks, but doesn't offer a browse function to look where they are saved.

Is there a way to install the old onenote? If not, is there an external conversion tool that will recognize my old files and convert to the new format?

    In addition to Bernds (absolutely correct) answer: If you have stored your notebooks with OneNote 2007 on your local drive (and of course you have, because with OneNote 2007 there was no other option) you cannot use the Onenote app which comes with Windows 10 (the one with the version Version 17.8366.57611.0) at all. That one needs notebooks to be stored on OneDrive or Onedrive for business which is an option that came with OneNote 2010 and MS Office 2010 Service Pack 1.

    So just look for OneNote 2007 on your computer and continue using that one. Ignore the Windows 10 app.

    If you have re-installed an Office 2007 including Onenote 2007 then search in Windows for "onenote". You should find two Onenotes. The Onenote (coming with Windows 10) and Onenote 2007.
