I have a dropdown menu that works fine when I put in the information, but if I happen to click on any other cell in the worksheet, the dropdown "disappears." Have NO idea what is going on and looking for some guidance!

Before

AFTER - I just clicked the cell above the dropdown Cell.

I've noticed that if you have have linked images in other cells of the workbook, the drop down list created through data validation becomes weird. If you keep clicking on the cell it appear but vanishes when you move the mouse cursor. You have to right click and go to select from drop down and then it appears again briefly.

This has been a bug in Excel for a long time and It doesn't matter if you have Display All checked on the workbook options or if you check always visible. The crappy alternative around it is to use a combo box from the Developers tab.

I wish someone at Microsoft could do something about it instead of repeating the same threads.

This was a response I found on another thread - the ALL has always been chosen, so that is not the issue, unfortunately.

    Thank you for trying, though!

Thanks for the information, Carol. For this concern, kindly go to Options, click on Advanced.

On the list look for Display options for this workbook , put a check on All under For objects, show:.

If you need further assistance. Feel free to reply on this thread.

"Are the options on the dropdown, selected on the Data Validation, on the same sheet or a different one?"

This is an edit of a file that was originally set up so all the data populated within the same sheet (there are 10 similar sheets). Much of this information is repetitive, so my goal was to have all the information populate from a separate sheet in the workbook.

In order to test why this issue was happening, I tried changing it (back) to populating this short list from within the same sheet. The issue still happened.

"How was the source selected? Was it from a selected range or a defined name?"

I tried both options for this, as well. Selected range of cells, as well as a named range of cells.

Also, does the same concern happen if you recreate a dropdown list from a different/new workbook?

I have not tried creating a dropdown from a different workbook. Just separate worksheet.

(I'm working on creating a truncated file that will work as an example.)

    Hello Carol,

Just to confirm, are the options on the dropdown, selected on the Data Validation, on the same sheet or a different one? How was the source selected? Was it from a selected range or a defined name?

Also, does the same concern happen if you recreate a dropdown list from a different/new workbook?
